Lok Sabha Elections The results of 2024 are being declared today i.e. on 4th June. NDA alliance is leading on many important seats and India alliance is leading on some seats. But apart from the election results, the question is that if all the data of EVMs is lost on some seats, will there be re-elections there? Today we will tell you what are the rules regarding this.
EVM
During elections, many questions arise about EVM (Electronic Voting Machine). For example, many times the opposition party raises questions about EVM being hacked. Apart from this, many times the matter of EVM being swapped also comes up. But the question is whether all the data can be lost from EVM? Know how EVM works.
how does evm work
EVMs are used for voting in the country. Let us tell you that whatever votes the voters cast during voting through EVM, those votes get stored. After this, on the day of counting, the Election Commission counts the votes through EVM machine. Do you know how an EVM machine works? Let us tell you that there are two units in EVM. The first is the control unit and the second is the balloting unit. Both these units are connected by a five meter cable. The control unit is with the presiding officer i.e. the returning officer. The balloting unit is kept in the voting compartment. Voters come to this place and cast their votes. The presiding officer at the polling station verifies the identity of the voter. After which the voter votes through EVM. In all this process, the risk of data being lost from the EVM is negligible.
When can elections be held again?
There is no election on any seat after counting. But if there is any problem or technical issue in EVM on any seat during counting, in such a situation a decision can be taken again only on the orders of Election Commission or Supreme Court. However, no such situation has come up till now.
Can EVM be hacked?
Many times the question arises whether EVM can be hacked. There is a statement of the Election Commission regarding this, according to which EVM machines are not controlled by computers. These are stand-alone machines, which are not connected to the Internet or any other network. Therefore, they are completely safe from hacking. Apart from this, EVM does not have a frequency receiver or decoder for data. Therefore, it is not possible to tamper with it with any wireless device, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth device. After voting, the Election Commission seals the EVM and keeps it in a strong room under tight security. It is opened only on the day of counting. Apart from this, in 2017, the Supreme Court has also considered EVMs reliable for voting during elections.
